Google may have avoided the forced sale of Chrome, but a landmark US court ruling means it must open up its search data to rivals — a move that could reshape competition in the search market.
Alphabet’s stock jumped 8% off the back of the decision, adding over $230bn in value, but questions remain ahead of the DOJ’s upcoming adtech remedies trial.
Speaking to Performance Marketing World, our head of SEO, Harry Clarke said: “This ruling is narrower than the EU’s DMA, which mandates broader data sharing. Whilst competitors can benefit, Google’s dominance remains clear — holding ~90% of market share in the EU. The US ruling could fuel AI Search competition, but we still expect Google to retain its grip on digital marketing.”
